Peter H. Jones, Ph.D.
Peter Jones lives and work in Toronto and manages two businesses located in the US. The newest firm, Dialogic Design International is a partnership (with Agoras leaders Aleco Christakis, Tom Flanagan, and Ken Bausch) that helps organizations and problem-focused communities address wicked problem systems using Structured Dialogic Design as a strategic dialogue process.
Peter is faculty lead for the new OCAD program M.Design in Strategic Foresight and Innovation and is a Senior Fellow of the Strategic Innovation Lab (sLab). Peter is also a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto working on collaborative informatics in healthcare research. He started a community of practice in Toronto known as Design with Dialogue that explores the applications of dialogue in design practice.
Peter is the founder of the design firm Redesign Research, which specializes in research and service/systems design for professional practice, knowledge work, organizational innovation, and information resources (online services and research tools).
As a board member of the Institute for 21st Century Agoras, Peters work with a worldwide practice network to advance the principles of dialogic design for inclusive, multi-stakeholder participation in solution creation for complex problems. As a non-profit, the Agoras Institute focuses on global and civil society issues primarily.
Dr. Christakis advised Peter’s Union Institute doctorate research. Completed in 2000, he examined the relationship of organizational values embedded in innovation processes to the maintenance of power and decision control. This work inspired continuing research into the organizational dynamics of innovation, collaborative information practices, and how people think with and use information. Peter’s current management research involves changing organizational practices to enable reflective renewal to improve innovation and facilitate transformation.
He is working on a current book project, Designing for Care, for Rosenfeld Media (2010). Peter wrote Team Design: A Practitioner’s Guide to Collaborative Innovation in 1998 (McGraw-Hill) and revised it in 2002. His publications are available on his personal website Design Dialogues.
