Jay Grossman

Jay Grossman is the principal of The Grossman Group, a strategic communications consultancy.  Previously, he was staff vice president-corporate media relations for Unisys Corporation, where he oversaw the company’s dealings with the news media worldwide. Prior to that, he spent 29 years with Bell Atlantic Corporation, including assignments as the company’s executive director of reputation management, executive director of corporate communications, director of corporate media relations and director of employee communications. 

At Unisys, Grossman overhauled the company’s media efforts, establishing relationships with key business media and building effective communications processes across the corporation. At Bell Atlantic (now Verizon Corporation), he was responsible for managing the reputation of the communications holding company. He also was instrumental in planning communications for the company’s merger with NYNEX in 1996. In 1993-94, he directed media relations for Bell Atlantic’s proposed merger with TCI. From 1985 to 1987, he directed media relations for Bellcore, a $1 billion research consortium. In 1982, he was on the team that announced the break-up of AT&T.

Grossman has consulted with the University of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers, Rebuilding Together, West Chester (Pa.) University, the U.S. Department of Transportation, Subaru of America and the American Red Cross. A member of the Overseas Press Club, he also is president of the Pennsylvania State University’s College of Communications Alumni Society and serves on the boards the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership and the Institute for 21st Century Agoras. He was a member of the National Press Club, served on the board of the InterAct Theatre Company in Philadelphia and managed successful local election campaigns in New Jersey. He is a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Grossman holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State and a master’s degree in communications from New York University.

Grossman has two grown daughters. He and his wife, Dorothy Daub, live in Philadelphia.
